Wonder...

Why existence?
                             Why reality?
            Why shape?
Why form?
               Why light instead of darkness?
Why color?
                      Why sound?
                                           Why substance?
                                                                  Why texture?
Why breathing?
                               Why dreams?

when the universe remembers
it was chosen
and might not have been
it breathes
and offers eucharist
and life begins
...

Waiting Backstage

There is a lack of follow-through,
a clicking of pens,
a shutting of books,
a shuffling of shoes,
a slamming of doors,

when you ask them
what happened
before time.

(This is taboo because we were not there.)

God was.

But it's none of our business what God was doing.
What we really mean is it doesn't concern us so why should we care?

In the Beginning GOD

In the beginning,
        the beginning of trees,
             the beginning of footsteps,
the beginning of doors with hinges,
the beginning of streetlights and sidewalks and benches,
the beginning of eyebrows and lids and lashes,
the beginning of breathing, in and out,
                                 the beginning of silence,
                                     the beginning of song,

In the beginning,
                            before the wheel,
before the invention of everything in general,
before blood and sweat and tears and laughter,
before this show got started with a creaking and grinding roar
                                                                                                 and never stopped,

In the beginning
GOD

you who hummed the world into being
what were you doing for forever
what was the theme of eternity's overture
sing us a song from before the cradle
if we can hear you
will we remember

From Everlasting to Everlasting

In the beginning...

the words reverberate with the power of the endless ages.

Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever you had formed the earth and the world,
from everlasting to everlasting, you are God.

In the beginning, GOD.
And on eternal mornings when the sky is deep and cold beyond the horizon, feel it:
the foreverness, the presence in the void.

What songs were sung in the lungs of eternity, what melodies thrummed in the voice of the Godhead,
shuddering time into being, echoing space into shape like a translucent tent, fluttering.
Oh God, who are you? I call you mine, says a human voice from somewhere small in the distant nearness.
But who am I to call you mine?

I call you mine, says God on the water. I call you each by name.

"Show them your glory, Father," says Christ, a voice of warmth, a voice unchanged, unchanging. "The glory which I had with you before the foundation of the world..."

The scene, unspeakable, is spoken into every soul just before dawn.
Unknowable, and yet we know it, don't we, within our ribcage.

The structure of infinity is the strucutre of the soul. Some day we'll see it and remember that it never was forgotten.

The Lord is in his holy temple.
The Lord is in his holy temple.
The Lord is in you.

...from everlasting to everlasting...
